ROCKWALL RACE TO END ABUSE 5K/WALK
The second annual Lillian Smith Rockwall Race To End Abuse 5K/Walk is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, 9 am, behind the Kroger Food Store on Ridge Rd. in Rockwall, located 30 miles east of Downtown Dallas on I-30 on the eastern shores of beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard. Over 200 runners and walkers are expected to participate.
Trophies will be awarded to the fastest Male, Female and Master's racers, while medals will be presented to the top three runners in many age groups. Ribbons will be provided to children who participate.
Other sponsors include Congressman Ralph Hall, State Sen. Bob Deuell, Rockwall County District Attorney Kenda Culpepper, plus a number of health care, fitness, retail and restaurant businesses, as well as local news media and area radio stations.
The Lillian Smith Race To End Abuse 5K/Walk is a series of USATF-sanctioned 5K races and 1K family fitness walks which are devoted to raising awareness and funds for campaigns to end abuse across Texas and the nation. It is the only event of its kind devoted solely to raising funds for educational campaigns. Other races or walks related to this cause strictly raise money to operate women's shelters or related non-profits.
Oct. 31, 2009, at the Kroger Food Store in Rockwall, which over 125 people attended.
More Race events will be scheduled in 2011 and 2012 across Dallas-Ft. Worth and in other Texas cities.
As more and more Lillian Smith chapters are opened, more events will be added across Texas and the U.S.
TASTE OF HEATH
Over 100 people and 14 Rockwall County restaurants combined to hold the first annual "Taste of Heath," Tuesday, Sept. 14, 5:30 - 8 pm, at the Rockwall-Heath High School cafeteria.
Tickets at the door were just $10 per adult. Children 5-12 just $4. Kids 4 & under FREE!
If you've ever attended the "Taste of Rockwall" or similar Taste events across the Metroplex, then you know how popular these events are for everyone involved.
