Normal, healthy families laugh and hug...
Family violence is out of control across the U.S. It's time we change the way we deal with domestic violence in America. To date, the majority of our resources are devoted to sheltering victims and punishing abusers. The time has come to devote far more of our energy to preventing abuse and stopping batterers before they inflict damage or harm.
Parents in healthy families don't let their children get away with hitting each other. They take control and intervene, teaching children the proper skills they need to deal with their problems.
We need to use the same strategies on a widespread basis.

Events are currently being planned to raise awareness and funds for Lillian Smith educational campaigns to teach and empower women, children and men how to help prevent and bring an end to domestic, dating, child and pet abuse.
Our initial focus is upon Rockwall County TX., where our first annual Lillian Smith Race to End Abuse 5K/Walk was held Oct. 31, 2009, at the Kroger Food Store in Rockwall,
30 miles east of downtown Dallas on I-30, on the eastern shore of beautiful Lake Ray Hubbard.
The Race To End Abuse is a series of USATF-sanctioned 5K races and 1K family fitness walks which:
- Increase awareness of the battle against domestic, dating, child and pet abuse
- Raise funds for advertising/public relations educational campaigns in media, schools and communities, plus for victim and abuser assistance
- Celebrate survivorship of abuse
- Remember and honor the millions of victims who have either been injured or lost their lives
This is the first and only event of this kind devoted to raising awareness and funds for campaigns to end abuse across Texas and the nation. Other races or walks related to this cause only raise money to operate women's shelters or related non-profits.
More annual events are scheduled in 2010 and 2011 across Dallas-Ft. Worth and other Texas cities.
As more and more Lillian Smith chapters are opened, more annual events will be added across Texas and the U.S.
Together we can end abuse!
