The first annual Lillian Smith Rockwall Race To End Abuse 5K/Family Fitness Walk will be held Oct. 31, 2009, at the back side of the Kroger Food Store, 2935 Ridge Rd, Rockwall TX 75032. It is a USATF-sanctioned event.
Picturesque Rockwall is located about 30 minutes east of Downtown Dallas on I-30 on the eastern shores of Lake Ray Hubbard. It is the county seat of fast-growing Rockwall County, the smallest and one of the most affluent counties in TX.
The Race Day schedule is:
6:30 am - Registration Begins
7:30 am - Warm-up exercizes led by the Rockwall Running Center
8:00 am - 5K Race
8:30 am - Family Fitness Walk
9:00 am - Survivor Celebration Walk
9:15 am - Awards Ceremony
9:30 am - Family activities
As many as 500 participants are expected. FREE water, drinks,
fruit and snacks will be provided to everyone at the event.
There will also be a bounce house and face painting for children.
Title sponsor is Heritage Christian Academy (H.C.A.).
Presenting sponsor is the Rockwall Walmart Supercenter and
Neighborhood Market.

Participant perks
At least the first 150 registered participants will receive a
high-quality,100% cotton T-shirt with a 2009 Lillian Smith
Rockwall "Race To End Abuse" 5K/Walk logo printed upon it.
We hope to provide them to all participants during the week
after the event.
Participants will also receive a "Goodie bag" containing
merchant coupons and samples.

Participants may eitehr pre-register online for the event or register on Race Day at the event.

Race course
This USATF-sanctioned 5K Race will begin on Arista Rd., in Kroger's back parking lot.
Runners will race past medical offices to Summer Lee Dr., south behind Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall past
Fox Chase Park on Tubbs Rd. to Country Club Dr. and back.
A special-event permit has been obtained from the City of Rockwall to use the city streets for the course.
Police and volunteers will be stationed at various points along the course to stop traffic and ensure runners
can easily follow the simple course.
The majority of the course is on flat, wide, city streets which will have very little traffic on an early Saturday morning.

Timing
Push-pull timing devices will be provided for all 5K runners by the Rockwall Running Center. Obtain your tag at the beginning of the Race and please remember to turn it in at the end of the Race.

Medical information
Medical staff will be on hand throughout the Race and Walk to deal with any problems.
In the event of a serious problem, Presbyterian Hospital of Rockwall and the Lake Pointe Urgent Care Center are on the race course and easily accessible.

Race Results
Race results for all runners will be posted and announced at the completion of the Race, during the one-mile Family Fitness Walk.

Awards
An awards ceremony will be conducted at the conclusion of the Family Fitness Walk.
Trophies will be given to the fastest adult male, adult female and 65+ senior.
Gold, silver and bronze medals will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers of the following
age groups: 14 and under,15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.
