Race To End Abuse 5K/Walk Events

Volunteers are needed now to help organize and promote our new series of
Lillian Smith "Race To End Abuse 5K Race/Walk" events across Dallas-Ft. Worth,
Texas and eventually the nation, beginning with the first annual Rockwall County Race, Oct. 10, 2009, in Rockwall.

This is the first time that a series of races and walks have been organized statewide and nationwide to raise awareness of the battle to end abuse, celebrate survivorship, plus raise funds for campaigns in media, schools and communities.

Because our non-profit organization is headed by veteran marketing and media experts who have years of experience with producing successful campaigns and events, we know what to do. Now we just need your help to make it work.

Following in the footsteps of the incredibly successful "Komen for the Cure" races, which have raised over $1 billion to combat breast cancer, our series of races will be expanded statewide and nationwide as soon as chapters can be established to organize events.

Four races are currently being scheduled in 2010:

  • Dallas County in March
  • Denton County in June
  • Collin County in September
  • Rockwall County in October

"Rockwall's Got Talent" Competition

Volunteers are also needed to help produce our first annual "Rockwall's Got Talent" competition at a Rockwall school, soon to be announced.

Preliminary rounds are tentatively scheduled Wednesdays, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28. The final is scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009.

Talent search participants will compete for cash and other prizes provided by local merchants. Celebrity judges are also being recruited and will help determine winners.

Rockwall County Volunteer Opportunities:

The majority of our public education, public policy and community organization efforts are currently focused in our own back yard upon rapidly-growing Rockwall County. Since 2006 Foundation founder and Rockwall resident J.J. Smith has been working hard to organize a community-wide effort to combat and prevent family violence. Much progress has been made, networking with professionals from law enforcement,  criminal justice, schools, health care, social service agencies and government.

Professionals from these groups are doing all they can to combat abuse problems, so now volunteers are needed to help:

  • Identify local assistance services for victims and offenders
  • Find assistance services located outside of our area which are needed here
  • Network with community leaders to expand local services
  • Network with community leaders to bring additional needed services here
  • Raise funds to help pay for needed services
  • Organize meetings to ensure services are working together
  • Arrange for our speakers to make presentations to local organizations
  • Speak publicly to local organizations
  • Send emails, make phone calls, attend meetings and more
  • Recruit more abuse survivors who want to get involved
  • Recruit more concerned citizen who want to make a difference

Volunteer opportunities outside of Rockwall County:

If you live outside of Rockwall County and would like to help us develop campaigns in media, schools and communities to prevent and end abuse, then your assistance is also needed.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Establish new Lillian Smith Foundation chapters
  • Expanding our dating abuse dangers programs across DFW & North Texas
  • Organize fundraising events, including races and galas
  • Organize protest marches and online petition drives
